Nissan Introduces Taxi Of Tomorrow In NYC

The Taxi Cab of Tomorrow is here today in New York City. Those iconic sedans we've taken to airports and Penn Station will soon be phased out, replaced by the latest trend of technologically advanced and eco-friendly vehicles from Nissan, including the Altima Hybrid and Nissan NV200.
"Nissan's NV200 Taxi will be the first taxi in the world to offer new and iconic features developed for, and with, New Yorkers," said Joe Castelli, vice president, Nissan Fleet & Commercial Vehicles. "The Taxi of Tomorrow Design Expo will offer a first look at these one-of-a-kind amenities, which include increased legroom, plenty of interior lighting, and materials that reduce odors and germs while supporting sustainability."1
Back in 2007, City officials set out to find a replacement for the decades-old taxi cabs of NYC and its outer boroughs. After almost 4 years and lots of public opinion, the roomy and green Nissan van won. The Taxi & Limousine Commission has "re-imagine the entire taxi system" - and we'll see them in person on the streets of The Big Apple by 2013.
In fact, if you live in certain parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, you've probably already seen the NV200 pick up passengers. The car will be NYC's official taxi for 10 years.
